Cricket Learnings - The "Pitch"!

"The pitch was not good hence we lost the match." (Of course, this is just the gist of all the Dhoni-pitch-blaming controversy recently).

I wonder, if a captain of Indian cricket team, and an international player of his calibre blames his defeat on the condition of the pitch, what kind of example is he trying to set up here?

I remember one of the statements made by captain of Aussies once when he was asked his thoughts about the pitch during toss, "Well, the pitch is 22 yards and we will perform our best in all the three departments. That's all we ought to know and understand". Why one cannot resist applauding such a positive thought?

If you so damn worry about the rest of the conditions other than game itself, are you really worth calling a great international cricket player? If you perform well with all the factors viz. good pitch, nice weather, great crowd support, couple of lifelines etc. etc. all coming your way, that is something least expected from you and hence, you are chosen in the playing 11. If someone is calling you a good international player/captain of one of most highly ranked team representing your country to the world, you gotta raise bars much beyond than just the knowledge of the game! You must score, perform and fight for the country even in the most unfavourable conditions. But above all, at least get your attitude and thoughts right. Study the conditions whatever you are exposed to, and plan your actions accordingly. If you lose a match, it’s just because other team has outperformed you in the same conditions and you fell back at some areas.

So, instead of indulging into the blame game, learn from your mistakes done in the previous match and come-back strong, we all, and will always, support you!
