Results Over Egos: Emphasizing 'What' Not 'Who' in Leadership

There will be days, even months (and beyond), when the magical innings of Virat Kohli in today’s match will be discussed and remembered over and over, and rightly so!

Personally, I never considered cricket as just yet another entertainment option, but I’ve always looked at it from a personal and professional learnings one can draw from it – especially hearing them from post-match presentations, interviews, and press conferences.

Dare I say, another very important contributing factor to the innings played by King Kohli (and unfortunately might not be highlighted as much) is the constant nudge and egging of Hardik Pandya to him in the middle is to “Believe; this is far from end result, we can still do this!!” if you’ve heard from the man of the moment himself in his first words after victory (and stressing upon later as well). More importantly, this came from a person who is younger, less experienced (comparatively) and at a point when Virat himself agreed that it looked like an impossible task and almost had given up apparently. What's the learning here?

If you are truly committed, honest and have an open mind to listen keeping aside of your titles, ego of superiority etc. help, hope and new perspectives can come from anyone and anywhere. All you need is to focus on the content delivered (the “what”) and not judging anything else (from “who”, the “where” etc.). Unfortunately, this comes from several personal experiences where even industry veterans failing to walk-the-talk on this one.
